SCHERERPARK, GRAZ
client: Stadt Graz
scope Monsberger: landscape design
completion: 2006
area: 8 900 m²
The site is functionally characterized by a retention basin of an Eidödbach (a local waterway prone to flooding) and the different terrain levels due to the flood protection. ‘Green tongues’ extending into the retention basin form the transition between the grassland and gravel area, which themselves form green islands planted with drought-resistant vegetation.
Seating niches along the edges of the park serve as a sheltered, quite area for visitors seeking relaxation. Play corners and lounging decks offer children and young people attractive spaces to spend their leisure time. The design process took part in a cooperation with ‘Fratz Graz’ (Initiative for open spaces for children and youth) and all children and young people from surrounding neighborhoods.
